bp notes , Wrigley field wall distances , and a complaint .
Not much happening outside Wrigley this season . They have even less power than last year if
that is possible . So Moe and I picked a perfect day to head inside to a half empty bleachers .
Even with the wind blowing out to right most of the Braves left handed hitters to their shots
at left center . At only 350 ft ( a no its not 368 as the sign reads , more on that later ) most
of the balls hitting the seats would have been 10- 20 feet short in most ballparks . So even
though Moe cleaned up in right field grabbing 8 , I doubled his totals by playing both the righties
and lefites in left field .
I shouldn't say doubled , I did find a few balls , Easter eggs we called
them , laying in the seats as I was the first to arrive in left field. I don't count those , or the one
toss up I caught accidentally as it wasn't meant for me and I gave away along with the other eggs
I found More on that later as well.
Back to the 368 sign . In all other parks the signs in left and right center are in the power alleys .
Not at Wrigley. 368 is far closer to center than the left field line , making the true power alley
closer to home than even the left field line which is 355. Waveland Avenue forces the walls of
Wrigley to angle in, and opposite on Sheffield as the wall angles out . So I would guesstimate
the left center alley is around 350 again making it very inviting to left handed hitters wanting to
impress with their opposite field power .
Back to the eggs , or any other balls that I give away . And believe me when I say this , no one
has given away more baseballs than me . And all the ballhawks are generous about giving balls
away to kids. But I don't think anyone comes close to the amount I give away each year .
The kids are down by the wall begging for balls from the players , not really paying attention to
any hit balls which can be a very dangerous situation by the way , and when they fail , or one
will compliment me on a catch or what ever , I have no problem giving away a ball. Here comes
the complaint ..lol . But as batting practice continues , and that same kid ends up getting 3-4 or
more balls as happens almost every time , please don't scream at me to give my next ball to a
kid when they 1. already have one , and/or 2 . they have caught plenty on their own. Ok , rant over
