No off day batting practice for the Cubs or the Braves. Moe recalls the Cubs teams back in the 60's and 70's taking bp AFTER games. Wouldn't that have been something , seeing the batting cage rolled out while fans are heading for the exits . I would pay to see that .
The Cubs chances of making the playoffs stand at 33.5 % .
Cool Standings: Cool Standings is a website that runs 1,000,000 (that's 1 million) season simulations every day and updates their page. Basically, you can see at a glance the chances your team has of winning their division, winning the wild card, or making the playoffs in any way. The standings seem to update more than once a day during most days.
After losing last night once again to the Marlins and the forcast for strong South winds , the Ballhawks had high hopes Lou would have the team taking extra batting practice before tonights game. Didnt happen . They started at the normal time of 4:30 for a night game , and as usual the first ball of the day wasn't caught on the fly .
Even though we are standing about 425-450 feet away , music blasting from the park , buses coming and going droping off fans from all over the Midwest and dozens of people yapping about last nights game , you can still hear the crack of the bat from inside Wrigley. Yet until that first ball clears the fence , the Ballhawks are not totally focused on catching baseballs. At least that's my excuse .
BAMMM!! Never saw it. Hitting the sidewalk in front of the second building down Kenmore , roughly 465 ft from home plate , and bounced into the yard of the third house . Bp had officially started . As I opened the gate to enter the yard I noticed a resident on all fours cultivating her garden . She didn't look too happy as I picked up the ball as it rested inches from her steps. She looked up and said " Thanks, you almost hit me !" No that wasnt me , that was Zambrano who almost hit you " , I replied . I brushed the fresh soil from the ball and offered it to her, but she had no interest . The day would get better. Just not for the Cubs.
With Moe once again going inside , and a few other regular Ballhawks being no shows , the corner belonged to George , myself and about two dozen rotating passerbys.
The Cubs would actually out street-homer the Marlins hitting 7 to their 5 . The Marlins had no problems out hitting the Cubs in the game . With 4 dingers during the contest, the closest to leaving the park were Ugla's and Cabrera's blasts in the first inning that would have made it to Waveland with the old bleacher configuration.
With the Braves in town already , may I suggest an off day batting practice ......for BOTH teams
Once again the Marlins out-hit the Cubs in batting practice 6-1 . Cabrera sent 3 bombs across Waveland , one through the middle of the trees guarding the Budweiser building that Dave caught with his eyes closed . Ken made a nice catch in the middle of the street , and Moe spent BP in the bleachers coming away with 4.
Cubs pick up two out of three from the White Sox . 29 balls on the street
during batting practice . And some TV time for the corner . Cant complain .
Kind of cool reading an article from ChicagoSports.com Sunday morning .
Cubs beat reporter Paul Sullivan writes ,
"With the wind blowing out toward left field at 14 m.p.h., the conditions were ripe for a slugfest. The two teams combined for 17 home runs onto Waveland Avenue in pregame batting practice, in addition to four shots onto Sheffield Avenue."
Was Paul actually counting , and counting correctly , or did he get some inside info from the Ballhawk.net ?
A slow day on the corner with a 20 mph winds out of the Northeast . No balls in BP , no balls in the game , a 50 minute rain delay in the 9th and the Cubs lose by 4 . A long day for Ballhawks and and even longer day for the scoreboard operators ....who had Soriano 0-2 with a walk and a triple. ?
Strong Southwest winds produced a season high 21 balls on the street . 11 by the Cubs
Dumb questions on Waveland over the weekend.
What time does the game end ? (wish I knew )
What is the score ? ( there is that big thing called a scoreboard right over there -----> )
Do baseballs ever come out here? (never)
Who is playing ? ( scoreboard )
Which way to the entrance ? ( straight east until you get to halsted , then turn right , turn right again at Addison )
Where did I park my car ? ( Their own car , not mine )
