A less than spectacular batting practice with only 2 hit out , both by White Sox
players. One deep down the line and another which landed 5 feet from me which
I would have had ... had I made ANY effort to pick it up :/
Matt Davidson hit what was reported by Statcast to be a 476ft home run in the game.
Another ball that I should have easily caught had I been paying attention and
also had I not had a foot long sub in my hand . The homer hit pavement about
20 feet in front of the yellow apartment building ... ( the base of the building is a
known 451 ft from home as measure by GPS in 2003 ) ... leaving us to guesstimate
the home run at 432. If you follow me on twitter I often call out Statcast for their
laughable estimates and this one is no different. Even more helpful is the ball hit flat
ground ... there is no estimating how far it would have traveled to the ground
uninterrupted by bleachers for example. This ball hit flat ground ( the street is
about 5 ft higher than playing surface ) ... there is no estimation to be made other
than to subtract the distance from the wall.
ESPN'S Hittrackeronline.com which is the other home run tracking website , and time and time
again proven to be far more accurate , had this ball at 433 ft ... so ill let them slide being only a foot off
